I actually went to college to study Broadcast/Media Journalism, then one day I had an opportunity to observe a Speech Language Pathologist “in action.” I spent the day with her, watching her work with kids of all ages and all kinds of disabilities. She even had a session where she helped a non-verbal child with Autism say his first word (“kitty” – I’ll never forget it!) After that day, I thought to myself: “This is what I want to do, I want to help kids communicate.” So I went to my college advisor, changed my major the second half of Junior year, took on double the classes to graduate on time, and the rest is history! Best decision I ever made.
